A competitive procurement for electricity capacity to meet Ontario's system needs. The LT1 RFP targeted year-round capacity to come into service between 2026-2028. The procurement acquired more than 2,100 MWs of new capacity including 1,784 MW of capacity from electricity storage facilities and 410 MW from natural gas and biogas. The IESO executed contracts with 13 selected proponents, acquiring 2,194.91 MW of new capacity scheduled to come into service between 2026-2028. This procurement resulted in competitive prices for new resources, municipal support, and significant Indigenous participation and equity ownership in projects. The procurement was designed to address Ontario's reliability demands and is part of the Resource Adequacy Framework for meeting needs this decade.
