Hawaiian Electric is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from developers or aggregators interested in developing cost-competitive Non-Wires Alternative (NWA) projects in the Ewa and Kapolei areas on the island of Oahu. This EOI aims to determine whether cost-competitive alternatives to traditional wires solutions exist to support grid reliability following the retirement of existing generation and significant load growth in west Oahu beginning in 2025.
Qualified respondents may propose utility-scale renewable energy projects or aggregated Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and energy efficiency (EE) solutions. The EOI includes general performance requirements that must be met by proposed solutions. Interested parties must complete the Questionnaire provided in Appendix A of the EOI document and submit responses by the deadline.
