Hawaiian Electric issued a Request for Information (RFI) to explore opportunities and assess the current state of technology for renewable energy projects that require longer development timeframes than the Companies' standard Request for Proposal timelines allow. These projects are characterized by unique technological requirements, transmission constraints, project permitting challenges, or land use limitations that necessitate extended development periods.
Responses to the RFI will inform Hawaiian Electric's determination of advancement and development status for long-term renewable projects. The information gathered will assist the Companies in identifying necessary modifications to future resource procurement processes to accommodate the distinctive aspects of longer development timeframes and complex project requirements.
Interested parties are required to complete the Questionnaire provided in Appendix A of the RFI and submit their responses to Hawaiian Electric. The Companies plan to schedule a working group meeting in late August or September 2022 to discuss responses and collaborate on how future procurements can be modified to better account for projects with extended development requirements.
